Often I was asked how do I enhance the picture. Honestly, I prefer to get the perfect from-the-camera itself. However, in real world, we produce anywhere between 2000 to 3000 pictures for each trip. Selecting the right ones and slight enhancement is often becomes mandatory. I was used to these below basic but very powerful tools. But Kannan (my friend) reckons Lightroom (adobe) does a better job for batch processing and I promised I will dig that as well. If its user friendly expect a Part II here.

And Sri, its dedicated for you!

Necessary tools. They are free tools.
1) Irfan view (for resizing and enhancing the picture) Link : http://www.irfanview.com/main_download_engl.htm
2) Fast stone Photo Resizer (for adding lovely frames) Link : http://www.faststone.org/FSResizerDownload.htm

Well, both the tools let you to select multiple images and allow you to process them in bulk.

Lets take the below picture as the reference straight out from my mobile.

Raw file from mobile

Now Open Irfant view tool, select File-> “Batch Conversion/Rename” from the menu.
You will see the below screen.

1) Add the files that you want to process.
2) Give appropriate destination folders (where processed images to be stored). Naming pattern “##” means 01,02,…99. for more than 99 images use ###.
3) Click on Advanced options. Ensure “Use Advanced options” is enabled.
You will see below screen.

Above image shows for 640×480 size images (the size you see in my webpage). But if you going to publish to facebook then use 1920×1280 size.
Follow exactly as mentioned in the above image for better results.

4) Click OK
5) Click on Start Batch. This will produce processed images on the destination as mentioned.

Now the below picture will show you the difference pre and post

Pre and Post processing using Irfan View

Now adding Frame

1) Open Faststone photo resizer application
2) Select below options. Again Choose the input files, setup destination (rename option available if needed).

3) Ignore all the tabs in the Advanced section but just the below. I have used 5,-4 as the setting for the 640×480. As I said if its for facebook, use 10,-8 as the option for bigger pictures.

4) Click OK and then Click Convert. It will produce the final picture.

Left is original image and the right is Irfan view processed, Faststone Photo Resizer framed

Hope it would come in use for me shortly…
Thanks a lot and hats off to declare openly about the Pre and Post Processing techniques, which most of the photographers wouldn’t credit it to the tools used to bring the feather touch effects.
Expecting more such tools and software used with detailed utilization process for easy understanding as I am totally away from these Pre and Post Processing due to my lack of knowledge in these. I should slowly adopt to it after reading such clear and easy gateways..
