Its been sometime I wrote something about a movie; which obviously does not mean that I didn’t see any good movies. I liked “Gravity”, Ender’s Game, Thor – Dark world, and even Hunger games. Not just that, I watched more movies at home, “Jagten” also known as “The Hunt” and few other thoughtful movies.
Its been a Thursday practice to watch a new movie so that I get free Friday evening.
Tom Hanks – the two time academy award winner just got them both by acting a common man roles. For few, it comes just naturally I guess. Lets recollect how he has been rejected in a play in his college days. I liked is Forest Gump and just like others its not twice or thrice I watched but many times. Anytime thats played anywhere.
I had very less expectation for this movie as its outlined that its a pirate attack and recovery. To make it moody, its drama. What got me to that was the rating. A rating of 8.1 (at the time of writing) is definitely wont go off my curious radar. On a sulky evening, I went to this movie with a salted popcorn and just plain water (to save from late night acidity). I started with more promising long yawning scenes. Before they made a pattern, movie got me gripped.
What worked in that movie is the practicality of the scenes. What would actually might happen, we see. It can be made has even more heart pounding with appealing characters, and extreme tecno musics. But they wanted to give you something what might really happen. And there you go, you get interested. Plot gets interesting to a level, heart really starts pounding fast. Its a neat edit, no less or more extra scenes that would loosen the grip.
Story creates a neat ambience that we are part of Captain Philip’s crew – stranded, emotionally feeling for him personally. After the Captain taken hostage and when the Navy picks it from there, it gets better. Not detailed but whatever shown, shows the capabilities of Navy. Salute!
When it reaches to the end (no wonder why its called ‘climax’), it really relieves you from all the pressures. Just like Captain Rich’s family, you feel better when captain is saved.
Some dramas are worth – to watch, to chew, to think again. This is one of them.
Though there are some conspiracies with the book and the movie and the actual thing that has happened, we are happy. I don’t need details on what was real or what was ‘added’.
.. We will really be happy for Tom Hanks and Captain Philips.
**** 4/5
